Our Genesis

The 1993 formation of the European Union created a powerful political and economic body representing 500 million people. The need for a parallel large scale operation to serve the Jewish population became urgently apparent.

The challenges facing the modern Jewish community of Europe are beyond the scope of regional initiatives with limited resources. The European Jewish Development Fund was established in 2002, with headquarters in the center of Brussels, a stone’s throw from the EU headquarters.

EJDF can ensure that smaller communities receive the same attention as larger cities and communities by offering financial and structural support tailored to the specific needs of each individual. Through its grants and support, EJDF allows organizations across the continent to guarantee that every Jewish person in Europe is heard and cared for.
